 Friday 20th October   This week we had a super visit from Zoo Lab.  We learnt how different animals use their senses to find food and escape from predators. We also started our science longitudinal study - finding out how the animals living in the pond change throughout the year. PE Kits The children will be bringing their PE kits home on Friday.  Please could you check that it all fits your child and also that they have the following; trainers (with velcro) or plimsolls house team coloured t-shirt Shorts Track suit bottoms/leggings Jumper/hoodie Reading challenge  As soon as your child finishes the first part of the reading challenge please bring the orange reading card into school and we can celebrate their achievement in class.  We are noticing such a difference in the reading fluency of children who are reading regularly at home.  Please remember to only record one read a day on the challenge card as the aim of the challenge is to encourage regular daily reading.  Thank you!   Friday 13th October This week at school, as part of our science learning, we have started to find out how animals use their senses to survive. We have used our own senses to explore activities in the outdoor classroom.  We identified food stuffs using our sense of smell and learnt how our sense of smell protects us from eating foods that have gone bad.  We made and explored different sizes of ear trumpet to find out how they changed the volume of sound that we heard. Reading Challenge We have had a delivery of bronze pin badges! As soon as your child finishes the first part of the reading challenge please bring the orange reading card into school and we can celebrate their achievement in class.  We are noticing such a difference in the reading fluency of children who are reading regularly at home.  Friday 6th October This week we have focused on understanding that animals need food to survive. We have also considered how they move to survive. You might like to observe how the animals in you garden or local park move. We have investigated what snails eat. We have found out that they don't eat meat and do eat plants and vegetables. Phonics This week we have learnt the alternative graphemes for ai: ay (play)  ay action a_e (make)  a_e action eigh (eight)  eigh action ey (grey)  ey action ei (reins)  ei action We have allocated ay games for you to play on Bug Club and books to read at home. Please  r emember these games can count towards your child's reading challenge, so can be recorded on their orange card. Maths  This week we have explored money. The children have recognised coins and matched them to amounts. Toy shop game We have also compared length and talked about the longest, shortest, tall, tallest. Who is the tallest in your family? Who has the longest sock or scar
