Friday 13th October

 Friday 13th October

This week at school, as part of our science learning, we have started to find out how animals use their senses to survive.

We have used our own senses to explore activities in the outdoor classroom.  We identified food stuffs using our sense of smell and learnt how our sense of smell protects us from eating foods that have gone bad.  We made and explored different sizes of ear trumpet to find out how they changed the volume of sound that we heard.

Reading Challenge

We have had a delivery of bronze pin badges! As soon as your child finishes the first part of the reading challenge please bring the orange reading card into school and we can celebrate their achievement in class.  We are noticing such a difference in the reading fluency of children who are reading regularly at home.

Thank you!

Phonics

This week in Phonics we have been learning the alternative graphemes that represent the "ee" sound.

These are;

ea, ey, ie and y

Below are the Bug club videos to show the actions.

ea action

e_e action

Our new tricky words are;

looked, called and asked

We have allocated the same Bug Club book to all of the children this week.  Please share it with your child.  You might like to read it to them and encourage them to listen out for words with the "ee" sound.

Maths
This week in Maths, we have been revisiting doubling and finding equal and unequal groups.
We have also been investigating different ways of partitioning numbers and recording our findings.  We tried hard to work systematically to find all of the possible ways to make a given number - see above.

You might like to play this game to practice your number bonds.
