  Friday 8th December In R.E. this week we have been learning how light is used in different celebrations.  We have learnt about the importance of light to Christians in the celebration of Advent. This week in Science, we have been learning about materials, their properties and why they are chosen for purposes.   In Art, we are learning the technique of weaving and looking at the work of the textile artist Lanny Mackenzie.   Phonics In Phonics we have been revisiting all of the phase 5 phonemes and tricky words taught so far this term.  We have been doing a Phonic assessment with your child to find out which words and phonemes they know securely. Maths We have been counting in tens and continuing our work finding 4 different number sentences to match a part whole model e.g. 5-2=3 5-3=2 3+2=5 2+3=5 Important dates Tuesday 12th December - Christmas lunch and jumper day Thursday 14th December - Year 1 Christmas Party Friday 15th December - 12.05pm Finish for Christmas holidays.  Friday 1st December This week we have been inspired by the artist Barbara Ray. She created painting based on a trip to the Arctic. The children learnt how to do mix colours making then lighter and darker. They then learnt to create a colour wash for their background and drew an arctic animal. You might like to visit the exhibition at Southampton City Art Gallery "Arctic Mirage". Phonics In phonics this week we have learnt: ou (house) oy (boy) Here is the link to all the phase 5 actions. Bug Club actions We have allocated games to practice at home. Please read your ou/oy book 2 more times at home. Maths In maths this week we have continued to practice 1 more and 1 less. We have also partitioned numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9 i.e 4+2=6 3+3=6...
