Friday 23rd February This week we have started our history learning about the Titanic.  We have approached this from the point of view of a passenger - Delia McDermott who travelled on the Titanic as a third class passenger.  Delia bought a new hat for her journey and we discussed the differences between the clothes worn by different groups of people, rich and poor in 1912.  We discussed how the lives of rich and poor people were very different in 1912.  We introduced the Titanic and discussed how it set sail.   Science This week we continued our science longitudinal investigation - finding out about the animals that live in our pond at the end of winter and the beginning of spring.  We discussed how this had changed from our findings in the autumn. World Book Day - Thursday 7th March We have been invited by Waterstones in Whiteley to visit them to spend our world book day voucher and listen to a story.  We will be walking to Whiteley Village so when thinking about a costume, please c

Friday 9th February We hope that you have a lovely half term holiday break next week. Thank you for your support this half term. This week we have been working on our Design Technology learning.  We experimented with construction kits, making stable structures with secure frames and overlapping bricks.  We learnt how to make hinges and attach tubes to models.  We designed and made our own stable structure with doors, windows and a roof. Maths In Maths this week we have been sorting groups of objects into twos and tens.  We have been working out how many "lots of" two or ten are in each group.  You might like to practise this at home during the holidays.  Could you organise toys or food items into groups of 2 or 10?  How many "lots of 2" do you have?  How many items altogether? The game below can be set to count in 2s or 10s, forwards and backwards. https://ictgames.com/mobilePage/whackAMole/ Phonics In Phonics this week we  have continued to revisit our Phase 5 gr

Friday 2nd February Next week we are learning to make stable structures in Design Technology.  Please could you bring in boxes (shoebox size and smaller) and cardboard kitchen rolls and toilet roll tubes to help with our experimenting. Thank you! This week we discussed what happened to the people in London after the Great Fire.  We learnt that they camped outside the city in tents and shacks.  In science we explored fabrics that could be used to cover a tent.  We tested fabrics to find out which would let the least water through and recorded our ideas in a table. English In English this week we have been learning to put words into the past tense by adding "ed", where no change is needed in the root word e.g. walk - walked. We wrote sentences about our Toby story to practise this skill. Phonics In Phonics this week we  have continued to revisit our Phase 5 graphemes to develop our confidence in reading and writing words with these sounds.  This week we have revisited  altern
