Friday 19th January This week at school we had a fantastic visit from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.  We learnt about the job of a firefighter. We learnt how to check our smoke alarms were working. We were set the challenge to find the smoke alarms in our house and to ask our adults to check them once a week.  We learnt how to make a 999 call.  You might like to ask your child to practise their address as many did not know their house number or name of their road when role playing this activity. As part of our science learning this week, we investigated which materials would burn. We then applied our learning to help understand why the Great fire of London spread so quickly. In Art, we have started to respond to the work of Jan Griffier who painted pictures of the Great Fire of London.  We have been practising mixing colours for our own paintings of the Great Fire. Reading Again this week we will be asking you to do the "second" read of your child's phonic reading bo

Friday 12th January This week at school we have been learning more about the Great Fire of London and how Samuel Pepys wrote a diary to record events. In Science we have been thinking about materials that are used to make buildings in the present day and which properties they have to make them suitable for this purpose e.g. the guttering at school is made of metal because metal is strong and waterproof. In R.E. we have been discussing the concept of change in relation to ourselves, our school and the world. Reading Again this week we will be asking you to do the "second" read of your child's phonic reading book at home.  They will do the "first" read as a group in school.  We will then do the "third" read with your child at school next week so that we can focus on developing your child's understanding of the text including their use of inference, explanation and prediction.   It is therefore really important for your child to read their allocated

Friday 5th January This week as part of our History learning, we have been finding out about The Great Fire of London.  We placed the fire on our class timeline and discussed pictures and paintings of the Fire.  We composed questions and talked about where, when and why the fire started . This week, we started to visit the computer suite in Key Stage 2. Each week half of the class will do an activity in the suite.  This week we have been learning how to use a mouse to control the computer - a tricky skill to master! Reading This week we will be asking you to do the "second" read of your child's phonic reading book at home.  They will do the "first" read as a group in school.  We will then do the "third" read with your child at school next week so that we can focus on developing your child's understanding of the text including their use of inference, explanation and prediction.  It is therefore really important for your child to read their allocate
