We were so proud of the children in all of their performances.  They did such a great job! Thank you for coming and supporting the children in learning their words.  We hope that you have a good Easter break.

This week at school we have been learning how and why Christians celebrate Easter.  We started from the point of view of the children.  We introduced the concept of "sadness turning into happiness".  The children discussed times when they had been sad and the things that had made them happy again.  We then read the Easter story and discussed how Christians feel sad on Good Friday and then celebrate on Easter Sunday.
Phonics
This week in Phonics we have revisited alternative graphemes for  "ear" and "air" these are "ere" (as in here), "eer" (as in cheer) and "ear"(as in bear) and "are" (as in square).  It would be great if you could practise these sounds using the games on Bug club and by reading this week's allocated book.

Maths
This week in Maths we have been learning about money.
We ordered coins by value and added coins together to make simple amounts.  We then "bought" toppings with school coins to make our own decorated biscuits.
Over the holidays, please could you give your child more experience of money.  Could they sort the coins into groups which are the same?  Can they find different ways to pay 10p or 20p using coins? Perhaps you could play shops with your child.

Plants

Next half term we will be learning about seeds and plants in science.  If you have any spare seeds, plants, pots or compost at home, we would really appreciate any donations. 

Zumba

On Wednesday at school, we had a Zumba taster session with Premier Education.  It was great fun!  Premier Education will be running an after school club on Wednesdays after Easter if any children are interested! Please check your parent mail for details.

P.E. Kits

Please can you check that your child's P.E. kit fits over Easter.

  Friday 22nd September This week we have been visited by Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre.  We had an amazing class talk with the birds' keeper, then experienced a flying session in the hall.  The children were very excited to see such incredible birds up close.  This visit was to develop the children's science learning in relation to animals and how animals move, feed and sense their environment to survive. Reading Challenge This week we are sending home the first part of the Year One reading challenge.  The aim of this challenge is to increase your child's confidence and fluency through regular daily reading at home.  Please record only one book for each day on the card - although of course if your child would like to read more that would be great!    Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely summer.  We are so pleased with how well the children have settled back into school. This week we have found out about the 'UN convention on the rights of the child' (UNCRC) Here is a link for parents about the UNCRC.                                                UNCRC The children have found out about their right to families, food, home, water and play. Over the next few weeks the children will develop their own 'class charter' based on the UNCRC and their rights. Please see parent mail for key information.  Friday 15th September This week we have recapped all our basic rights. All children have the right to food, water, home, family, play and the right to learn. This week we have started our 'Feathered Friends' learning journey.  The children have identified different types of animals- mammals, amphibians, birds, reptiles and fish. We have been on a walk in the woods, spotting different types of birds.  We have also read some information and watched some clips to find out about different types of birds. Phonics This week we have started to recap phase 4. The children have practiced the phase 4 tricky words: said like so there some were little come one do when out what have We have allocated phase 4 games to each child's  Bug Club account.
