Class Performances
We are working hard on our class performances.  If your child has words to read, please can you practise reading them clearly and out loud at home. 
Please can your child bring some brightly coloured clothes to wear for the performance in a named carrier bag by next Tuesday 19th March.  Your child will be wearing plimsols or trainers for the performance.

Phonics Check Meeting

On Tuesday 26th March at 9am Mrs Robinson will be running a meeting to give you information about the National Statutory Phonic screening check that takes place in Year One in June.

It would be great if you are able to attend this meeting so you can find out how you can best support your child with their phonics at home.

Phonics

This week in Phonics we have been consolidating the phase 5 sounds that we have learnt so far in Year One.  Your child's class teacher has been doing individual phonics assessments with your child.  We will discuss their progress in Phonics during the Parents' evenings next week.

Maths

In Maths this week we have been solving addition and subtraction problems then using the answers to solve a related problem e.g. Sam has 8 apples and gives 6 to his friend, how many apples will he have left?  What happens if he has 8 apples and gives 5 to his friend? 

We have also worked hard on our number bonds to ten, recording 4 different number sentences for each pair of numbers e.g. 

7+3=10

3+7=10

10-3=7

10-7=3

Art

In art, we have been using our sketching skills to draw careful pictures of the Titanic.  We have used our colour mixing skills to paint our pictures.

  Friday 22nd September This week we have been visited by Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre.  We had an amazing class talk with the birds' keeper, then experienced a flying session in the hall.  The children were very excited to see such incredible birds up close.  This visit was to develop the children's science learning in relation to animals and how animals move, feed and sense their environment to survive. Reading Challenge This week we are sending home the first part of the Year One reading challenge.  The aim of this challenge is to increase your child's confidence and fluency through regular daily reading at home.  Please record only one book for each day on the card - although of course if your child would like to read more that would be great! At the end of each part of the challenge your child will receive a special pin badge to wear on their school jumper.  Friday 15th September This week we have recapped all our basic rights. All children have the right to food, water, home, family, play and the right to learn. This week we have started our 'Feathered Friends' learning journey.  The children have identified different types of animals- mammals, amphibians, birds, reptiles and fish. We have been on a walk in the woods, spotting different types of birds.  We have also read some information and watched some clips to find out about different types of birds. Phonics This week we have started to recap phase 4. The children have practiced the phase 4 tricky words: said like so there some were little come one do when out what have We have allocated phase 4 games to each child's  Bug Club account.    Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely summer.  We are so pleased with how well the children have settled back into school. This week we have found out about the 'UN convention on the rights of the child' (UNCRC) Here is a link for parents about the UNCRC.                                                UNCRC The children have found out about their right to families, food, home, water and play. Over the next few weeks the children will develop their own 'class charter' based on the UNCRC and their rights. Please see parent mail for key information.
