Friday 2nd February

 Friday 2nd February

Next week we are learning to make stable structures in Design Technology.  Please could you bring in boxes (shoebox size and smaller) and cardboard kitchen rolls and toilet roll tubes to help with our experimenting. Thank you!

This week we discussed what happened to the people in London after the Great Fire.  We learnt that they camped outside the city in tents and shacks.  In science we explored fabrics that could be used to cover a tent.  We tested fabrics to find out which would let the least water through and recorded our ideas in a table.

English

In English this week we have been learning to put words into the past tense by adding "ed", where no change is needed in the root word e.g. walk - walked.

We wrote sentences about our Toby story to practise this skill.

Phonics

In Phonics this week we  have continued to revisit our Phase 5 graphemes to develop our confidence in reading and writing words with these sounds.  This week we have revisited alternative graphemes for the "oa" digraphThese include ow, o_e, oe and o.
You might like to play the games on Bug club which practise these sounds.
Maths
In Maths this week we have been learning to share amounts equally into 4 parts - quarters.
We folded shapes into quarters and identified shapes that were shared equally into quarters.
Your child might like to practise this skill at home by cutting food items equally into quarters.

INSET DAY
Friday 9th February will be an INSET day so school will be closed for the children on this day.
