Fareham library do a fantastic summer reading challenge.  This year the theme is "Read to the Beat".  This is a really great way to build your child's confidence in reading over the summer.

Reading Logs

The children will be given new reading logs in September.  Please keep reading throughout the summer and adding to the reading challenge cards.  These can still be brought into school in September to exchange for badges and books.

Science
This week at school, we have been focusing on our science learning and exploring forces. We investigated the forces needed to make bikes, scooters and balls and games equipment move, stop and change direction.  We explored how bigger pushes make vehicles and equipment travel further and recorded our ideas.

Phonics

In Phonics this week we have been learning to read and spell words containing the 's' and 'es' suffixes which are used to make plurals. We found out that if a word ends with a hissing sound (s, ss, sh, ch, x) we add 'es' to make the plural, otherwise we jus add 's'. (cat-cats, duck-ducks/ fox-foxes, church-churches)

You can watch a video about it here:

Maths

This week in Maths, we have been learning about capacity.

We learnt and used language to describe capacity e.g. full, empty, half full.

We found containers that held more or less than 1 litre and measured the capacity of different containers using non-standard units (cubes).
