Friday 6th March

This week at school we have been learning about the Titanic's journey across the Atlantic Ocean.  In English, we learnt to use time adverbials e.g. "first", "next", "after that" and "finally" to sequence events.

We learnt about the amazing facilities on the Titanic and learnt about the different activities that first, second and third class passengers could do.

In Geography we learnt about St David's Day (which is on the 1st March) and the traditions associated with it.  We located Wales and Cardiff on a map of the United Kingdom and recapped the names of the other countries that make up the United Kingdom.

Phonics

In Phonics this week we  have continued to revisit our Phase 5 graphemes to develop our confidence in reading and writing words with these sounds.  This week we have revisited the sounds "ew" as in "stew" and "screw" and "ue" as in "blue" and "queue".
You might like to play the games on Bug club which practise these sounds.
This week we have allocated the books "Bullfrog is Best", "Hilltop Rescue" and "Follow the Clues" to practise the sounds above.

Maths
In Maths this week we have been solving simple division problems e.g. If I have 12 sweets and I put 2 in each party bag, how many party bags will I need?

Class Performances
In Year One our class performances are in the spring term at 2pm.
The dates are as follows;
1J - Monday 23rd March
1B - Wednesday 25th March
1R - Thursday 26th March
We would love you to join us at our performances!

For 1J and 1B's  spring performances we would like all the children to wear clothes in spring colours e.g. pink, green, yellow, blue, red and white. Please could your child bring in an outfit in a named carrier bag by Tuesday 17th March. Please can we ask that your child has their P.E plimsolls/trainers in school too.

As Thursday 26th March is a non uniform day, please can 1R wear their spring performance clothes to school on this day.
