How animals use their sense to survive


This week we really enjoyed our visit from Zoo Lab. We had a chance to hold and stroke some of the animals and learnt some interesting facts about how they use their senses. The animals that visited us were :-

Giant African Snail


Madagascan Hissing Cockroach



Tree Frog

Corn Snake


Rose Tarantula


Science/English
You might like to ask your child what facts they can remember about the animals? In English we have been writing sentences about how these animals use their senses to survive. 
E.g. The corn snake smells with its tongue and feels with its skin.

Reading

Please continue to read 3 times the allocated book for your child on Bug Club.
You may like to also read together How animals smell,taste and touch. We looked at this book together to find out some more interesting information about how animals use their senses to survive. 
We have now started phase 5 phonics.
This week the children have learnt 'ph and wh'. 
We have allocated ph and wh games to your child's Bug club account.

If you fancy an extra read to practise the 'ph' and 'wh' sounds, we have allocated the books below;

Maths

In maths we have been finding different ways of making 7 and seeing if we can find all the possibilities. We have been using a numberline to check that we have written the numbers round the right way.

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about internet safety and finding out information about animals by using the search engine Kiddle. Click on the link below to have a go at searching for some facts about animals.

Friday 19th September

  Friday 19th September This week we have started our 'Feathered Friends' learning journey.  We have allocated 'Hungry Birds' to your child on Bug Club to share at home together and find out some facts and information about birds.   This week we have been visited by Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre.  We had an amazing class talk with the birds' keeper, then experienced a flying session in the hall.  The children were very excited to see such incredible birds up close.  This visit was to develop the children's science learning in relation to animals and how animals move, feed and sense their environment to survive.
