Friday 14th November

Thank you for all of the families who are reading the Bug Club book allocated and shown on the sticker in their child's reading log.

It is really important for you to read this book at home with your child as it supports their reading in class with their teacher.  If they do not read the book they find it much harder to recall the new phonics sounds they have learnt that week at school and it is hard for them to develop fluency in reading.  Unfortunately we don't have enough paper copies of Bug club books to practise each week's sound at the same time so we really need your support in reading these books on Bug Club at home.

Junk Modelling

This term we are encouraging children to build their resilience by independently junk modelling in the outdoor classroom.  If you have any small cardboard boxes or tubes please can you put them in the junk box outside Class 1J.  No plastic please as the children can't cut plastic safely.

Diwali
This week at school we have been learning how and why Hindus celebrate the festival of Diwali.  We have discussed the concept of good and evil through the story of Rama and Sita.  We made Divas out of clay to hold tea lights.  These are lit at Diwali time to light Rama and Sita's way home.

Phonics

In phonics we have learnt the alternative graphemes for igh (night).

(ie (tie), i-e (ripe), y (fly), i (child).

Please can we ask that you make sure that you read the allocated Bug Club book this week with your child to practise the new digraphs and new tricky words 'water' and 'where'.  This makes such a difference to how your child remembers and applies this new learning in class. Please see the sticker in your child's reading log for the name of the book to read.

Thank you

We have also allocated some games on Bug Club to practise reading and spelling words with these sounds.

If you fancy an extra read to practise the alternative "igh" graphemes above, we have allocated the books below;
Butterfly Pie, Flying High and I Spy.

Maths
This week in Maths we have continued to work on our early multiplication skills - grouping objects into lots of/groups of 2 and counting in 2s to identify the whole amount.
The children found it quite tricky to identify how many groups of 2 were in the whole amount.  You might like to practise this at home.
e.g. "There are 4 lots/groups of 2"
"2, 4, 6, 8 - There are 8 marbles altogether."

Resilience
This half term we are focusing on the children developing their resilience- their ability to "bounce back"
Each week we give suggestion for you to do at home to support this.
This week we are sharing the keep your cool toolbox. This is a free app that share some lovely resourses for supporting your child with their feelings and regulation.

As part of our work on resilience with offering the opportunity for more junk modelling. This provided opportunities for challenge, problem solving and collaboration.

If you are able to spare any time each week to support in class, even 30 mins a week makes a difference.
Please get in touch if you can help.
