 Friday 22nd May As part of our Geography map work and science learning next half term, we will be visiting the Meadowside Park in Whiteley.  We would appreciate any parent or grandparent volunteers who could accompany us.  Please let your child's class teacher know if you are able to support this trip.   Monday 22nd June from 9 till 12pm - 1B Wednesday 24th June from 9 till 12pm - 1J Thursday 25th June from 9 till 12 pm - 1R Many thanks Science This term we drew careful observational drawings of plants from around our school.  We discussed the parts of the plant (stem, roots, leaves and flower) and what they do to help the plant survive.  You can see some of 1J's drawings above. This week we revisited our science longitudinal study and looked at the animals in the pond.  We found out how the animals in the pond have changed now that spring is here.  Friday 15th May English In English this week,  we followed instructions to make clay pots which we will plant up with seeds to take home when they have been fired in the kiln. We wrote our own instructions for making our pots using imperative (bossy!) verbs e.g. "get" and "make" and time adverbials e.g. "first", "next" and "after that". Maths In Maths this week we have practised halving groups of objects.  We used bar models and part whole models to record our working. Phonics   In Phonics this week we have been revisiting reading and spelling words with the split digraphs "a_e", "e_e" and "i_e". The National Phonics Screening check is only 2 weeks away now! We are nearly there!   Friday 8th May Phonics The National Phonics Screening check is only 3 weeks away now! We are nearly there! Thank you for your work at home with your child in practising reading real and "alien" words.  We are really noticing an increase in the reading confidence of children who are practising these at home.   Please can you practise reading the real and "alien" words on the orange sheet sent home with your child each week.  Encourage them to draw on the sound buttons, then to carefully say each sound and then to blend the sounds together to read each word.  We have put the sound buttons on the words on one side of the paper so that you know where they need to go!  In the Phonics reading check, the children will be asked to put the sound buttons on each word independently.  Mrs Robinson has made the video below to show you how the sounds are pronounced and blended.
