Friday13th March

In English, we have been writing letters from the point of view of a passenger on the Titanic, explaining the sorts of activities we would have liked to do on board ship.  We did a great job of our letters and used time adverbials (such as first, next, after that and finally) and adjectives to extend our ideas.
Art
We looked carefully at pictures of the Titanic and carefully sketched the ship.  We then mixed colours to paint our pictures.

Maths

 
In Maths this week we have been using equipment such as Numicon and Dienes to make 2 digit numbers.  We practised adding and subtracting ten to 2 digit numbers.  You might like to practise making 2 digit numbers with tens and units using the games below.

Phonics
In Phonics this week we  have continued to revisit our Phase 5 "ue" graphemes to develop our confidence in reading and writing words with these sounds.  This week we have revisited the sounds "u_e" as in "flute" and "u_e" as in "cube" and "u" as in "bush" and "oul" as in "should".
You might like to play the games on Bug club which practise these sounds.
Class Performances
We are working hard at learning the songs and dances for our class performances during our rehearsals.
In Year One our class performances are in the spring term at 2pm.
The dates are as follows;
1J - Monday 23rd March
1B - Wednesday 25th March
1R - Thursday 26th March
We would love you to join us at our performances!

For 1J and 1B's  spring performances we would like all the children to wear clothes in spring colours e.g. pink, green, yellow, blue, red and white. Please could your child bring in an outfit in a named carrier bag by Tuesday 17th March. Please can we ask that your child has their P.E plimsolls/trainers in school too. 

As Thursday 26th March is a non uniform day, please can 1R wear their spring performance clothes to school on this day.

If you have a toy wooden garage you no longer need we would love to replace the one in our Outdoor Classroom as it is tired and broken.

 Friday 12th September   Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely summer.  We are so pleased with how well the children have settled back into school.   Friday 19th September This week we have started our 'Feathered Friends' learning journey.  We have allocated 'Hungry Birds' to your child on Bug Club to share at home together and find out some facts and information about birds.   This week we have been visited by Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre.  We had an amazing class talk with the birds' keeper, then experienced a flying session in the hall.  The children were very excited to see such incredible birds up close.  This visit was to develop the children's science learning in relation to animals and how animals move, feed and sense their environment to survive. Friday 26 th September

  Friday 26th September Thank you for ensuring that your child is arriving promptly at school.  It has made such a difference  in each class  to the start of the school day. In science this week we have been learning that animals need food to survive, and that food gives them energy to move and material to grow. The children have learnt that all animals are different and so eat different foods. Some only eat plants (herbivores), some eat other animals (carnivores) and some eat both (omnivores).  A predator is an animal that hunts, kills and eats other animals.
