This will be the last blog of the year!  Thank you for all of your support in Year One this year.

Please keep reading with your child over the summer holiday.  It would be great if you could take part in the Fareham Libraries Summer reading challenge. This is a great project to give your child a super experience of reading a wider range of books and really builds their confidence.

The school reading challenge will continue over the summer.  Challenge cards can still be brought into school in September to exchange for badges and books.

Sports Day

The children will wear their P.E kits to school on the day of Sports Day with trainers or P.E shoes and socks. We will send P.E.kits home next week.  Please can you check your child’s trainers still fit them.  Please provide your child with a hat and water bottle and ensure you have applied sun cream before school.

Science

This week at school as part of our science learning we have been continuing to investigate the forces needed to make objects move. We carried out a paper plane investigation to find out which plane travelled the furthest.  We recorded our results and wrote our own conclusions.

Art

In Art we have been exploring the bird sculptures of Diana Beltran Herrera 


and Cathy Miles

We have been doing close observational drawings of feathers and we will be sculpting with wire and card next week to create our own bird sculptures.
R.E. 
In R.E. we have been learning about the concept of "Power" and thinking about animals, people and characters who the children think are powerful.  We thought about how the children have the power to help themselves when they are finding something tricky.  We learnt about the Hindu character Ganesh.  In the Hindu Faith, Hindus pray to Ganesh as he is believed to have the power to overcome obstacles.

 Friday 12th September   Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely summer.  We are so pleased with how well the children have settled back into school.   Friday 19th September This week we have started our 'Feathered Friends' learning journey.  We have allocated 'Hungry Birds' to your child on Bug Club to share at home together and find out some facts and information about birds.   This week we have been visited by Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre.  We had an amazing class talk with the birds' keeper, then experienced a flying session in the hall.  The children were very excited to see such incredible birds up close.  This visit was to develop the children's science learning in relation to animals and how animals move, feed and sense their environment to survive. Friday 26 th September

  Friday 26th September Thank you for ensuring that your child is arriving promptly at school.  It has made such a difference  in each class  to the start of the school day. In science this week we have been learning that animals need food to survive, and that food gives them energy to move and material to grow. The children have learnt that all animals are different and so eat different foods. Some only eat plants (herbivores), some eat other animals (carnivores) and some eat both (omnivores).  A predator is an animal that hunts, kills and eats other animals.
