Trip to the park
Next week, please can you ensure that your child wears comfortable shoes and brings a sunhat and a raincoat for their trip to the park . morning.  Please can you also apply sunscreen to your child before school.

Geography
This week at school we have started our new Geography learning. We used Google maps to discuss the human and physical features in our local area and beyond.  We zoomed into our school from a world satellite map and discussed the features that we could see.  We identified our local park (Meadowside) on the map and looked at the route we needed to take to get there.  We drew our own maps of the route which we will follow next week to get to the park.
English
This week we drew our own story plan to help us to write our own version of Jack and the Beanstalk.
We did a fantastic job of orally telling the story and recording it on the i-pads using the voice memo.  We loved listening back to the story that we had told.
We then started to write and illustrate our own Jack and the Beanstalk books to read to Year R.
Music
In Music this week we started to learn more about pitch and rhythm using the Boomwhackers. You might like to watch this video to see how Boomwhackers make music!

Maths
In Maths we have been solving problems involving multiplication facts for 2, 5 and 10. 


We used pictures, arrays and repeated addition to record our calculations.

We also solved problems involving division.



 You may like to use this interactive 100 square at home to count in 2, 5 and 10 and see the patterns.

 Friday 12th September   Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely summer.  We are so pleased with how well the children have settled back into school.   Friday 19th September This week we have started our 'Feathered Friends' learning journey.  We have allocated 'Hungry Birds' to your child on Bug Club to share at home together and find out some facts and information about birds.   This week we have been visited by Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre.  We had an amazing class talk with the birds' keeper, then experienced a flying session in the hall.  The children were very excited to see such incredible birds up close.  This visit was to develop the children's science learning in relation to animals and how animals move, feed and sense their environment to survive.   Friday 26th September Thank you for ensuring that your child is arriving promptly at school.  It has made such a difference  in each class  to the start of the school day. In science this week we have been learning that animals need food to survive, and that food gives them energy to move and material to grow. The children have learnt that all animals are different and so eat different foods. Some only eat plants (herbivores), some eat other animals (carnivores) and some eat both (omnivores).  A predator is an animal that hunts, kills and eats other animals.
