As part of our Geography map work and science learning next half term, we will be visiting the Meadowside Park in Whiteley.  We would appreciate any parent or grandparent volunteers who could accompany us.  Please let your child's class teacher know if you are able to support this trip.

Computing

This week we are developing our keyboard skills when using the computers in the Key Stage 2 computer suite.  This week we learnt how to type our names using "Word".  We learnt how to create capital letter on the keyboard and use the space bar to make a space between our first name and surname.  Very few children knew how to spell their surname so this might be something you would like to practise at home. Half the class will visit the computer suite each week.

Design Technology

This week at school we have started our Design Technology learning.  We looked at books with moving parts and learnt how to make our own moving pictures with levers and sliders.

English

We started our English unit of work about Jack and the Beanstalk sharing the version below and acting it out with our friends.

Phonics
The National Phonics screening check will be taking place next week in school.  This will assess your child's blending skills using real and alien words. You will receive your child's results as part of their end of year report. Please find an orange sheet in your child's bag to practise blending their phase 3 and 5 sounds to read words.

Maths
In Maths this week we have been working with numbers to 100 and partitioning them into tens and units.  
We are working on developing the children's confidence and fluency when mentally solving addition and subtraction calculations. 
It would be great if you could download the free White Rose Maths App to practise this at home.  Just a few minutes a day will make a real difference.  Thank you!

  Friday 19th September This week we have started our 'Feathered Friends' learning journey.  We have allocated 'Hungry Birds' to your child on Bug Club to share at home together and find out some facts and information about birds.   This week we have been visited by Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre.  We had an amazing class talk with the birds' keeper, then experienced a flying session in the hall.  The children were very excited to see such incredible birds up close.  This visit was to develop the children's science learning in relation to animals and how animals move, feed and sense their environment to survive. Friday 26 th September

  Friday 26th September Thank you for ensuring that your child is arriving promptly at school.  It has made such a difference  in each class  to the start of the school day. In science this week we have been learning that animals need food to survive, and that food gives them energy to move and material to grow. The children have learnt that all animals are different and so eat different foods. Some only eat plants (herbivores), some eat other animals (carnivores) and some eat both (omnivores).  A predator is an animal that hunts, kills and eats other animals.
