Friday 17th April

Welcome back to school, we hope that you had a good break.

This half term at school we will be learning about plants and how they grow.

If you have any flower pots, soil or plants that you could donate, we would be very grateful.

In Science this week we learnt about seeds.   We set up an investigation to find out how we could discover which items in our collection were seeds and which were not.  The children suggested planting each object to find out if it would grow.

Phonics
Please look out for the orange sheet in your child's book bag this week.  This is to support your child in becoming more confident in recalling and then blending the sounds that they have learnt at school so far.  In June your child will be doing the Statutory National Phonics screening check which checks their confidence in blending phonic sounds.
Please can you practise reading the real and "alien" words on the orange sheet with your child.  Encourage them to draw on the sound buttons, then to carefully say each sound and then to blend the sounds together to read each word.  We have put the sound buttons on the words on one side of the paper so that you know where they need to go!  Mrs Robinson has recorded the video below to show you how to sound out and blend each word.

Phonics

In Phonics this week we  have continued to revisit our Phase 5 graphemes to develop our confidence in reading and writing words with these sounds.  This week we have revisited alternative graphemes for the "oi" and "ow" digraphs. These are "oy" and "ou"
You might like to play the games on Bug club which practise these sounds.
This week's books to read on Bug Club to practise the sounds above are
At the Toy Shop and The Trout Fishing Song

Maths
In Maths this week we have been working on our quick recall of number bonds to 10.  We solved problems e.g. "If I have 10 counters and 3 are in the pot, how many are hidden in my hand?"
You might like to play the game below with your child to practise their number bonds to ten.

Computing

This week in computing, we made worlds for our Beebot programmable robots (see image above).  We then practised programming the Beebot to move around our worlds.
Your child might like to practise this at home by using the free app above for Apple or Android devices.
