We were so proud of the children in all of their performances.  They did such a great job! Thank you for coming and for supporting the children in learning their words.  

Money
After half term we will be focussing on money in Maths.  The children usually find it quite hard to learn to identify coins as they don't have so much experience of coins with our ever increasing use of cards!
Over Easter please can you give your child opportunities to handle coins.  Can they identify the values of each coin? Can you play shops and use coins to pay for objects. Try lining the coins up in order of value or sorting coins into groups so all of the 2p coins are together for example.

This week at school we have been learning how and why Christians celebrate Easter.  We started from the point of view of the children.  We introduced the concept of "sadness turning into happiness".  The children discussed times when they had been sad and the things that had made them happy again.  We then read the Easter story and discussed how Christians feel sad on Good Friday and then celebrate on Easter Sunday.

Phonics


This week in Phonics we have revisited alternative graphemes for  "ur". These are "ir", "er" and "ear".  It would be great if you could practise these sounds using the games on Bug club and by reading this week's allocated book. We have allocated the books below to practise the sounds above;

RNLI visitor
This week we had a great visit from the RNLI.  They taught us how to keep safe at the beach and near water.

  Friday 19th September This week we have started our 'Feathered Friends' learning journey.  We have allocated 'Hungry Birds' to your child on Bug Club to share at home together and find out some facts and information about birds.   This week we have been visited by Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre.  We had an amazing class talk with the birds' keeper, then experienced a flying session in the hall.  The children were very excited to see such incredible birds up close.  This visit was to develop the children's science learning in relation to animals and how animals move, feed and sense their environment to survive.   Friday 26th September Thank you for ensuring that your child is arriving promptly at school.  It has made such a difference  in each class  to the start of the school day. In science this week we have been learning that animals need food to survive, and that food gives them energy to move and material to grow. The children have learnt that all animals are different and so eat different foods. Some only eat plants (herbivores), some eat other animals (carnivores) and some eat both (omnivores).  A predator is an animal that hunts, kills and eats other animals.
