Friday 27th March We were so proud of the children in all of their performances.  They did such a great job! Thank you for coming and for supporting the children in learning their words.   Money After half term we will be focussing on money in Maths.  The children usually find it quite hard to learn to identify coins as they don't have so much experience of coins with our ever increasing use of cards! Over Easter please can you give your child opportunities to handle coins.  Can they identify the values of each coin? Can you play shops and use coins to pay for objects. Try lining the coins up in order of value or sorting coins into groups so all of the 2p coins are together for example.  Thank you! R.E. This week at school we have been learning how and why Christians celebrate Easter.  We started from the point of view of the children.  We introduced the concept of "sadness turning into happiness".   The children discussed times wh...

Friday 20th March Class Performances The children are working hard on their class performances.  If your child has words to read, please can you practise reading them clearly and out loud at home.  If your child is in Class 1J or Class 1B please can they bring some brightly coloured clothes to wear for the performance in a named carrier bag - lots of children have still not brought in clothes to wear.  Your child will be wearing plimsolls or trainers for the performance.  Class 1R will be wearing their performance clothes to school as it is non-uniform day on the day of their performance. Many thanks! Phonics Check Meeting On Wednesday 15th April at 9am Mrs Robinson will be running a meeting to give you information about the National Statutory Phonic screening check that takes place in Year One in June. It would be great if you are able to attend this meeting so you can find out how you can best support your child with their phonics at home. Many thanks! G...

Friday13th March In English, we have been writing letters from the point of view of a passenger on the Titanic, explaining the sorts of activities we would have liked to do on board ship.  We did a great job of our letters and used time adverbials (such as first, next, after that and finally) and adjectives to extend our ideas. Art We looked carefully at pictures of the Titanic and carefully sketched the ship.  We then mixed colours to paint our pictures. Maths   In Maths this week we have been using equipment such as Numicon and Dienes to make 2 digit numbers.  We practised adding and subtracting ten to 2 digit numbers.  You might like to practise making 2 digit numbers with tens and units using the games below. https://ictgames.com/sharkNumbers/mobile/index.html https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/place-value-basketball Phonics In Phonics this week we  have continued to revisit our Phase 5 " ue" graphemes to develop our confidence in readi...

Friday 6th March This week at school we have been learning about the Titanic's journey across the Atlantic Ocean.  In English, we learnt to use time adverbials e.g. " first", "next", "after that"  and " finally"  to sequence events.   We learnt about the amazing facilities on the Titanic and learnt about the different activities that first, second and third class passengers could do. In Geography we learnt about St David's Day (which is on the 1st March) and the traditions associated with it.  We located Wales and Cardiff on a map of the United Kingdom and recapped the names of the other countries that make up the United Kingdom. Phonics In Phonics this week we  have continued to revisit our Phase 5 graphemes to develop our confidence in reading and writing words with these sounds.  This week we have revisited the sounds "ew" as in "stew" and "screw" and "ue" as in "blue" and "queue...
