Friday 18th October We have used our own senses to explore activities in the outdoor classroom.  We identified food stuffs using our sense of smell and learnt how our sense of smell protects us from eating foods that have gone bad.  Phonics This week at school we have continued learning our new Phase 5 sounds and tricky words.  Please can we ask that you make sure that you read the allocated Bug Club book this week with your child to practise the new digraphs "ay", "a_e", "eigh", "ey" and "ei" and new tricky words 'Mr' and 'Mrs'.  This makes such a difference to how your child remembers and applies this new learning in class.  Thank you! We have also allocated some games on Bug Club to practise reading and spelling words with these sounds. Friday 17th October How animals use their sense to survive This week we really enjoyed our visit from Zoo Lab. We had a chance to hold and stroke some of the animals and learnt some interesting facts about how they use their senses. The animals that visited us were :- Giant African Snail Madagascan Hissing Cockroach Tree Frog Corn Snake Rose Tarantula Science/English You might like to ask your child what facts they can remember about the animals? In English we have been writing sentences about how these animals use their senses to survive.  E.g. The corn snake smells with its tongue and feels with its skin. Reading Please continue to read 3 times the allocated book for your child on Bug Club. You may like to also read together How animals smell,taste and touch . We looked at this book together to find out some more interesting information about how animals use their senses to survive.  We have now started phase 5 phonics. Friday 10th October  In Science this week we have been learning how animals use movement to survive.  We discussed how animals move to find food and avoid predators.  We went for a walk in the woods to find animals and observe how they move.  We drew careful pictures of the animals that we collected. Maths This week in Maths  we have been investigating different ways of partitioning numbers and recording our findings.  We tried hard to work systematically to find all of the possible ways to make a given number - see above.   Friday 3rd October Maths This week in Maths we have been learning to represent groups using  whole/part models and number sentences - see image above.  We have worked on solving simple problems e.g. There are 2 birds in the tree, how many more birds do we need to make 5? Try the games below 1 more game adding to 10 game Phonics In Phonics this week we have spent this week consolidating Phase 4 Phonics - words with adjacent consonants and phase 4 tricky words. Thank you for working on the reading challenge at home with your child.  We are noticing such a difference in the confidence of the children who are reading each day at home. We have had a delivery of bronze rocket badges so when your child completes their bronze reading challenge please let us know. P.E.
