Thursday 12th February

This week we continued our Design Technology unit of work, where we learnt about creating stable structures.  We designed and made our own tent frame, after talking about how in 1666 people had to live in tents after the Great Fire.

English

In English this week we applied our learning about past tense verbs to write our own versions of Toby and the Great Fire of London.

Phonics

In Phonics this week we  have continued to revisit our Phase 5 graphemes to develop our confidence in reading and writing words with these sounds.  This week we have revisited alternative graphemes for the "igh" digraph. These include ie, i_e, y and i.
You might like to play the games on Bug club which practise these sounds.
This weeks allocated books are "Flying High", "What the wind can do" and "Butterfly Pie".


P.E. Kits
Over half term, please could you check that your child's P.E. kit and trainers still fit them.

In Year One our class performances are in the spring term at 2pm.
The dates are as follows;
1J - Monday 23rd March
1B - Wednesday 25th March
1R - Thursday 26th March

 Friday 12th September   Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely summer.  We are so pleased with how well the children have settled back into school.   Friday 19th September This week we have started our 'Feathered Friends' learning journey.  We have allocated 'Hungry Birds' to your child on Bug Club to share at home together and find out some facts and information about birds.   This week we have been visited by Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre.  We had an amazing class talk with the birds' keeper, then experienced a flying session in the hall.  The children were very excited to see such incredible birds up close.  This visit was to develop the children's science learning in relation to animals and how animals move, feed and sense their environment to survive. Friday 26 th September

  Friday 26th September Thank you for ensuring that your child is arriving promptly at school.  It has made such a difference  in each class  to the start of the school day. In science this week we have been learning that animals need food to survive, and that food gives them energy to move and material to grow. The children have learnt that all animals are different and so eat different foods. Some only eat plants (herbivores), some eat other animals (carnivores) and some eat both (omnivores).  A predator is an animal that hunts, kills and eats other animals.
