Design Technology

This week we have been carrying out our Design Technology unit of work, where we learnt about creating stable structures.  We explored construction kits and materials including straws, pipe cleaners, wooden sticks and elastic bands.  We learnt how to join materials to make stable, free standing shapes.

English

In English this week we have been learning to put words into the past tense by adding "ed", where no change is needed in the root word e.g. walk - walked.

We wrote sentences about our Toby story to practise this skill.

Phonics

In Phonics this week we  have continued to revisit our Phase 5 graphemes to develop our confidence in reading and writing words with these sounds.  This week we have revisited alternative graphemes for the ee digraphThese include ea, e_e, ey, y and ie.
You might like to play the games on Bug club which practise these sounds.  We have also allocated the books; Easy-Peasy!, Sunny Days, Rainy Days and Baby-sitting Barney to practise this week's sounds.
Maths
In Maths this week we have been learning to share amounts equally into 4 parts - quarters.
We folded shapes into quarters and identified shapes that were shared equally into quarters.
Your child might like to practise this skill at home by cutting food items equally into quarters.

We also learnt the names and some of the properties of simple 3D shapes.  We have learnt about the shapes below.

You might like to spot these shapes in the outside environment when you are out and about!
We have used the words: edge, flat face and curved surface to describe them.
Computing
In Computing, we continued to develop our skills in using the programme "Paint" in the computer suite.  We learnt to "drag and drop" to create shapes and we learnt how to use the "fill" command to fill our shapes with colour.  We are starting to get more confident when using the mouse to control the computer.

INSET DAY
Friday 13th February will be an INSET day so school will be closed for the children on this day.
