Friday 30th January

Thank you for bringing in boxes and tubes for our modelling table outside 1J.  Please could you continue to bring these items into school.  Thank you!

Science
As part of our science learning this week, we investigated which materials would burn. We then applied our learning to help understand why the Great Fire of London spread so quickly.

English
This week in English we started to read a fiction text about the
Great Fire of London.  We created a story map and acted out key parts of the story.
Please click on the link below to hear the story.

RE
We have continued to learn about the concept of "change" and how the concept is used in Christianity.  We read and responded to stories that show how Christians believe Jesus changed people's lives.

Phonics
In Phonics this week we  have continued to revisit our Phase 5 graphemes to develop our confidence in reading and writing words with these sounds.  This week we have revisited alternative graphemes for the "ai" digraphThese include "ay", "a_e", "eigh", "ey" and "ei"
You might like to play the games on Bug club which practise these sounds.
To practise reading words with "ai" graphemes, we have allocated the books Jake's Dinner, Dave's Big Day and I will amaze you!

Maths
In Maths this week we have been learning to tell the time to the hour and half hour on an analogue clock.
You might like to play the game below to practise this.  If you have an analogue clock at home please can you draw your child's attention to the half past and o'clock times throughout the day. Talk about the position of the long minute hand and short hour hand.  We have used the language e.g. "10.30" for half past times to draw the children's attention to the fact that half past is 30 minutes past the hour.
Thank you!
We have also been learning how to compare mass using a balance scale.  We loved making our cakes using the balance scales.  We measured the amounts by balancing the flour, sugar, and butter with the egg.  We used comparative language; heavier than, lighter than, equal mass/weight.

Reading

Thank you to all the families who are doing the second read on Bug Club with their children at home.  It is really noticeable when your child has had this opportunity and they are able to engage more fully with the comprehension activities that we are doing in the third read at school.
Please let us know if you are having any issues accessing Bug Club.
Thank you!

We have been learning to write capital letters.

You might like to practise at home.
