We have really enjoyed our history learning this week about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot.

We have learnt a rhyme to help us remember the eventful day in 1605. Can your child remember it?

Phonics

In phonics we have learnt the alternative graphemes for "ee".  These are 

ea, e_e, ie, ey and y

Please can we ask that you make sure that you read the allocated Bug Club book this week with your child to practise the new digraphs and new tricky words 'looked'. 'called' and 'asked'.  This makes such a difference to how your child remembers and applies this new learning in class. Please see the sticker in your child's reading log for the name of the book to read.

We have also allocated some games on Bug Club to practise reading and spelling words with these sounds.

If you fancy an extra read to practise the alternative "ee" graphemes above, we have allocated the books below; Easy-Peasy, Sunny Days, Rainy Days and Baby-sitting Barney.

Maths

We have explored odd and even numbers and have been counting in steps of 2. We have been singing a lovely song to help us!


You may like to use socks, gloves, shoes to put into pairs to count in 2s?

As part of our work on resilience, we are encouraging the children to explore junk modelling. If you have any boxes that we can use, we would appreciate them. Please make sure that the boxes have not contained nuts, eggs, or milk.

This week we have introduced the children to new year 1 routines.  We have also explored the 5 basic rights set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This forms part of our 'Rights and Respect Education' (RRE). We have found out about the basic rights that all children have- food, shelter, water, family and play. Friday 18th September This week we have recapped all of our basic rights from  the 'United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child' (UNCRC). All children have the right to food, water, home, family, play and the right to learn. Science This week we have started our 'Feathered Friends' learning journey.  We have allocated 'Hungry Birds' to your child on Bug Club to share at home together and find out some facts and information about birds in preparation for our learning next week. Next week we will have some bird visitors. Please let your child's teacher know if your child might find this difficult. Thank you. The children will be making observations of snails over the next few weeks, so if you have any in your garden that we could borrow for our learning, we would be very grateful. Friday 25th September

  Friday 25th September This week we have been lucky enough to have a visit from Liberty Owls. They brought to school a range of birds which included owls, hawks, kestrels and a vulture. Thank you for ensuring that your child is arriving promptly at school.  It has made such a difference  in each class  to the start of the school day. In science this week we have been learning that animals need food to survive, and that food gives them energy to move and material to grow. The children have learnt that all animals are different and so eat different foods. Some only eat plants (herbivores), some eat other animals (carnivores) and some eat both (omnivores).  A predator is an animal that hunts, kills and eats other animals.
