Class Performances
The children are working hard on their class performances.  If your child has words to read, please can you practise reading them clearly and out loud at home. 
Please can your child bring some brightly coloured clothes to wear for the performance in a named carrier bag - lots of children have still not brought in clothes to wear.  Your child will be wearing plimsolls or trainers for the performance.

In Year One our class performances are all at 2pm next week.
The dates are as follows;
1H - Monday 24th March
1J - Tuesday 25th March
1R - Thursday 27th March

Phonics Check Meeting

On Tuesday 1st April at 9am Mrs Robinson will be running a meeting to give you information about the National Statutory Phonic screening check that takes place in Year One in June.

It would be great if you are able to attend this meeting so you can find out how you can best support your child with their phonics at home.

Phonics

This week in Phonics we have revisited alternative graphemes for  "ear" and "air" these are "ere" (as in here), "eer" (as in cheer) and "ear"(as in bear) and "are" (as in square).  It would be great if you could practise these sounds using the games on Bug club and by reading this week's allocated book. We have allocated the books below to practise the sounds above;
Meerkats, Sid and the Scarecrow Dare, Hairy Bears

Maths

In Maths this week we have been solving addition and subtraction problems then using the answers to solve a related problem e.g. Sam has 8 apples and gives 6 to his friend, how many apples will he have left?  What happens if he has 8 apples and gives 5 to his friend? 

We have also worked hard on our number bonds to ten, recording 4 different number sentences for each pair of numbers e.g. 

7+3=10

3+7=10

10-3=7

10-7=3

Art

In art, we have been using our sketching skills to draw careful pictures of the Titanic.  We have used our colour mixing skills to paint our pictures.

 Friday 5th September   Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely summer.  We are so pleased with how well the children have settled back into school. Friday 24th January

 Friday 24th January This week at school we had a fantastic visit from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.  We learnt about the job of a firefighter. We learnt how to check our smoke alarms were working. We were set the challenge to find the smoke alarms in our house and to ask our adults to check them once a week.  We learnt how to make a 999 call.  You might like to ask your child to practise their address as many did not know their house number or name of their road when role playing this activity. English and History This week in English we have written simple recounts of the events of the Great fire of London and made our own non-fiction fact books about the Great Fire. We were really proud of the way the children wrote simple sentences with straightforward subject/verb agreement. Thursday 13th February

 Thursday 13th February     Waterstones walk - Thursday 6th March We have been invited to Waterstones in Whiteley to spend our World Book Day vouchers and share a story.   We will be walking to Waterstones in the morning on Thursday 7th March.  We would be very grateful if any parents or carers could volunteer to support us in our walk down to Whiteley. Many thanks! This week we have been carrying out our Design Technology unit of work, where we learnt about creating stable structures.  We explored construction kits and materials including straws, pipe cleaners, wooden sticks and elastic bands.  We learnt how to join materials to make stable, free standing shapes.  We then designed and made our own tent frame, after talking about how in 1666 people had to live in tents after the Great Fire.
