 Friday 7th February

Thank you for bringing in boxes and tubes for our modelling table outside 1J.  Please could you continue to bring these items into school.  If you have any spare sponges at home (or are happy to put an extra one in this weeks shopping), we would appreciate them for our water trays.

Many thanks!

This week we discussed what happened to the people in London after the Great Fire.  We learnt that they camped outside the city in tents and shacks.  In science we explored fabrics that could be used to cover a tent.  We tested fabrics to find out which would let the least water through and recorded our ideas in a table.  We independently wrote simple conclusions to our investigations.

English

In English this week we have been learning to put words into the past tense by adding "ed", where no change is needed in the root word e.g. walk - walked.

We wrote sentences about our Toby story to practise this skill.

You might like to watch the Nessy video with your child below and discuss how "ed" is added to verbs to put them into the past tense.

Phonics

In Phonics this week we  have continued to revisit our Phase 5 graphemes to develop our confidence in reading and writing words with these sounds.  This week we have revisited alternative graphemes for the "oa" digraphThese include ow, o_e, oe and o.
You might like to play the games on Bug club which practise these sounds.
We have allocated the books "Fun in the Snow", "Let's Set up the fair" and "Animal Skeletons" to practise the graphemes above.
Maths
In Maths this week we have been learning to share amounts equally into 4 parts - quarters.
We folded shapes into quarters and identified shapes that were shared equally into quarters.
Your child might like to practise this skill at home by cutting food items equally into quarters.

We also learnt the names and some of the properties of simple 3D shapes.  We have learnt about the shapes below.

You might like to spot these shapes in the outside environment when you are out and about!
We have used the words: edge, face, curved and straight to describe them.

Resilience

A great way to improve resilience is through games and puzzles.
