Friday 31st January
Friday 31st January
As part of our work on resilience we are encouraging the children to cut and join materials independently to make models. Please could you bring in any small boxes or tubes for the children to use for this purpose. There is a box for these outside 1J.
Thank you!
Reading
Thank you to all the families who are doing the second read on Bug Club with their children at home. It is really noticeable when your child has had this opportunity and they are able to engage more fully with the comprehension activities that we are doing in the third read at school.
Please let us know if you are having any issues accessing Bug Club.
Thank you!
English
In English this week we started to read a fiction text about the
Great Fire of London. We created a story map and acted out key parts of the story.
Please click on the link below to hear the story.
Science
As part of our science learning this week, we investigated which materials would burn. We then applied our learning to help understand why the Great Fire of London spread so quickly.
RE
We have continued to learn about the concept of "change" and how the concept is used in Christianity. We read and responded to stories that show how Christians believe Jesus changed people's lives.
Phonics
In Phonics this week we have continued to revisit our Phase 5 graphemes to develop our confidence in reading and writing words with these sounds. This week we have revisited alternative graphemes for the "igh" trigraph. These include y, i, ie and i_e.
You might like to play the games on Bug club which practise these sounds.
We have allocated the Bug Club books Flying High, Butterfly Pie and What the Wind can do, to practise this weeks graphemes when reading at home.
You can also play the action and sound video.
In Maths this week we have been learning to tell the time to the hour and half hour on an analogue clock.
You might like to play the game below to practise this. If you have an analogue clock at home please can you draw your child's attention to the half past and o'clock times throughout the day. Talk about the position of the long minute hand and short hour hand.
Thank you!
We have also been learning how to compare mass using a balance scale. We loved making our cakes using the balance scales. We measured the amounts by balancing the flour, sugar, and butter with the egg. We used comparative language; heavier than, lighter than, equal mass/weight.
