Friday 17th January
Friday 17th January
This week at school, we continued our learning about the Great Fire of London. In English we learnt to identify nouns and verbs and we wrote simple sentences with subject verb agreement e.g. "The fire is burning the houses."
Dance
This half term we are working on Dance in our indoor P.E. sessions.
This week we created a dance using pathways after looking at some falling leaves. We worked hard to move to the rhythm of the music and worked well with our partners.
Phonics
In Phonics this week we have continued to revisit our Phase 5 graphemes to develop our confidence in reading and writing words with these sounds. This week we have revisited ay, a_e, ei, eigh and ey. You might like to play the games on Bug club which practise these sounds.
Maths
In Maths we have continued to work on developing our understanding of part/whole models particularly in relation to subtraction e.g.
We also explored how numbers could be made of more than 2 parts - see the part/whole model above. You might like to play the Smoothie Maths game below with your child to practise facts to make ten and facts within ten.
Thank you to everyone who has done the second read of this week's Bug club book with their child. It made such a difference to the children's confidence when answering comprehension questions and joining in with group discussion about the book.
Well done to all the children in 1H as they have all now achieved their bronze award and many have completed silver and gold.
There are only a few children left in Year 1 who haven't yet got their special bronze badge, please don't give up. It would be great if every child in Year 1 could get their bronze badge by half term.

Resilience
This half term we are focusing on the children developing their resilience- their ability to "bounce back"
Each week we give suggestion for you to do at home to support this.
This week we are sharing the keep your cool toolbox. This is a free app that share some lovely resourses for supporting your child with their feelings and regulation.
As part of our work on resilience with offering the opportunity for more junk modelling. This provided opportunities for challenge, problem solving and collaboration.
Please can you bring in any small empty card boxes or tubes for us to use in Junk modelling. No plastic please.
Thank you!
